No one had ALL the correct answers
POTW 11-16-08
Play: It is Team A's turn for the next AP throw-in. There is a held ball situation and as you look to the bench the arrow is pointing to Team B. You hand Team B the ball for the throw-in and after the throw-in is complete the scorer's bench realizes the mistake and sound the horn. You blow your whistle since you have no idea what it is for and rule?
a) Award Team A the ball since they lost their opportunity for the T-I.
b) This is a correctable error
c) Do nothing but decide to give Team A the ball for the next 2 Throw-ins
d) It is too late to do anything since the T-I ended
e) Team B keeps the ball at the POI
f) Ensure the AP arrow is pointed toward Team A
What answer(s) are correct?
POTW 11-09-08 Correct answers were: C & D
Since the spectator was in bounds the ball is STILL inbounds therefore a is NOT correct but c is as far as location of the ball.
Also because of a potential safety concern your whistle is NOT inadvertent as answer b states.
Putting the ball back into play is all you have left. We have to use P.O.I. and since Team A was last in control we would return the ball to them at the spot nearest where the ball was at the time of your whistle.
Reference: Case Book p. 55
Play 7.1.2 C
Play: A1 is dribbling in the
frontcourt when B1 deflects the ball away. The ball then hits a spectator who is walking by but is on the court. You sound your whistle. What is your call?
a) The ball is out of bounds
b) This is an inadvertent whistle
c) The ball is NOT out of bounds
d) Resume play at the point of interruption, giving the ball to Team A
e) Resume play at the point of interruption, giving the ball to Team B
