Submitting the correct answer(s) for 12-13-08 POTW:
Mike Crowley Mike Komnick
POTW 12-22-08
Play: A1 is shooting 2 foul shots. The officials fail to recognized prior to the 1st FT that Team A is in the first two lane spaces and Team B is in the second two lane spaces. After the 1st FT is successful, the official notices the error. How is this situation handled?
a) Call a T on Team B for not being in the 1st Lane Spaces
b) Cancel the FT, reset the players and re-shoot the 1st FT.
c) Call a simultaneous violation on Team A & B and cancel the
point
d) Count the point for Team A
e) Ignore the improper alignment and properly align players for
the 2nd FT.
POTW 12-13-08 Correct answers: C, D, & F
Why are C, D, & F correct?
Since A1 caused the ball to go out of bounds we would not re-jump. We would only re-jump if the official ruled both players caused the ball to go out of bounds. As with anytime the ball goes out of bounds you would place the ball in play at the spot nearest where it went out. Since Team B is awarded the T-I the AP arrow gets set to Team A and is set at the time the ball is handed to Team A since this establishes the AP Procedure.
Play: Opening jump, jumper A1 tips the ball out of bounds near the free throw line extended in A's frontcourt. Which of the following are true?
a) Have another jump ball to start the game
b) Team B receives the ball for T-I at the division line
c) Team B receives the ball for T-I at the spot nearest where the ball went OB
d) Set the AP arrow to Team A
e) Set the AP arrow to Team B
f) AP arrow is set when Team B is handed the ball for the T-I
g) AP arrow is set when the T-I ends
