Submitting the correct answer for the POTW for 1-9-09: Steve Doran
POTW 1-17-09
Play: A1 is driving for a layup and has released the ball for a try. The ball has made contact with the backboard but is still on its upward flight. B1 jumps and blocks the ball while it is still on its upward flight but is above the ring. It is likely the shot would have been good. What is the correct ruling?
a) Basket interference on B1
b) Goaltending on B1
c) Count 2 pts for Team A
d) Legal play by B1
What are the correct answer(s)?
POTW 1-9-09 Correct answers: A, C, & D Why are these correct?
A is correct since the player was fouled in the act of shooting, we must count the basket. C & D are correct per Rule 10 Section 6 Pen. 4. Even though the shot was good an intentional foul is penalized with 2 free throws and the offended team receives the ball for a T-I.
Play: A1 is intentionally fouled during a successful 3 pt attempt by B2. What is your ruling? a) Count the 3 pt basket b) Award A1 one free throw c) Award A1 two free throws d) Team A receives a throw-in at the spot nearest the foul after the final FT e) Team B receives a throw-in after the final FT is successful f) If the final FT is unsuccessful the ball remains alive as after any other missed final FT attempt.

Here is my answer:
d) Legal play by B1
I am basing this off the fact the ball is still on its upward flight.
