Submitting the correct answer(s) for 1-17-09 POTW:
Mike Komnick & Steve Doran
POTW 1-24-09
Play: A1 is fouled on a try. He is injured to the point that he cannot attempt his FTs. A6 enters the game to shoot the FTs. Which of the following are true regarding A6 at this point?
a) A6 must remain in the game for at least on tick of the clock.
b) A6 may be substituted for by A1
c) A6 may be substituted for A7
d) No subs are allowed after the FT
What are the correct answer(s)?
POTW 1-17-09 Correct Answer: D
Why is D the only correct answer?
In order to get the correct answer you need to look at my favorite rule, Rule 4. BI does not apply here since the ball was not within the basket nor was any part of the basket ever touched. Goaltending in high school however can only occur while the ball is on its downward flight. Therefore in this play although the ball did hit the backboard it was not on its downward flight and therefore cannot be goaltending. The fact that the ball has already hit the board has no significance. Thereby answer D is the only correct answer.
Play: A1 is driving for a layup and has released the ball for a try. The ball has made contact with the backboard but is still on its upward flight. B1 jumps and blocks the ball while it is still on its upward flight but is above the ring. It is likely the shot would have been good.
What is the correct ruling?
a) Basket interference on B1
b) Goaltending on B1
c) Count 2 pts for Team A
d) Legal play by B1
